Like any world, the art world has a diverse population. Some people are driven by aesthetic experience and love artworks for the beauty they offer. Others may be more philosophical and love antiquities for what they reveal about the universal truths about humanity or the source of our culture. Still others are in the business and their interest is financial. Some collect antiquities for the status they confer.

Most people who prize antiquities are probably motivated by a combination of these (and other) factors.
